A concert of golden tones with music by Vivaldi, Mozart and Haydn. We welcome one of Auckland’s musical treasures, Tamas Vesmas, as soloist with the ACO in the sublime Mozart piano concerto K.414. The Barber Adagio is the ultimate autumnal experience and an icon of 20th century music. Concluding the concert is Haydn’s charming early symphony “Le Soir”.

A very special project which sees the ACO collaborating with the Auckland Writers & Readers Festival to present a performance of music in the context of literature. Hear international and New Zealand authors talk about how they are influenced and inspired by music, and hear the ACO perform this music.

You will hear the icy sounds of Vivaldi’s winter but most of the music in this concert will warm the soul. As in the slow movement of the Vivaldi this programme summons up a cosy winter night in front of a warm fire.

We welcome the Auckland Philharmonia’s concertmaster Dimitri Atanassov as violin soloist in the premiere performance of a concerto by the ACO’s musical director, Peter Scholes. The Respighi composition is inspired by three of Botticelli’s paintings: Spring, Adoration of the Magi and The Birth of Venus. Copland’s Appalachian Spring is his most popular work and the ACO will perform it in its original form.
