Auckland Chamber Orchestra

The Auckland Chamber orchestra has been entertaining and inspiring audiences since its first concert in 1999.

This year we celebrate our 10th birthday – a decade of music making which has spanned the middle ages through to music composed just days before the performance. There has been song, dance, story telling, serious music, fun music, improvisation and many surprises. ACO concerts are unique.

Highlights of the decade include playing with Dame Malvina Major at Waitangi, Opera in the Pa at Rotorua, accompanying silent film, studio recordings, children’s concerts, composer workshops, opera in concert, opera productions and ballet.

Collaboration is the key to progress and we have had successful collaborations with other organisations including the Film Festival, Opera Studio and Musica Sacra.

We thank the many soloists and artists we have worked with including the behind the scenes help from the people at the Edge. Many composers have been with us in in production and they give the ACO an insight into the creative process which is the whole reason for being here in the first place.

We pay tribute too to the great composers of the past whose music makes the world a better place, speaks of hope, challenge and beauty. Above all it is the collaboration with the audience which is the ultimate vibrant purpose and joy of music making.

Please join us at the concerts.

Peter Scholes
Musical Director

Music is the biggest language in the world. It brings people together and helps us realize that a ray of beauty is a necessary complement to our everyday focus on material things and utility. If we can think of music and try to hear it in our minds throughout our daily chores we can add delight to those we deal with and to ourselves. Auckland Chamber Orchestra is neither the biggest nor the most well-known of New Zealand orchestras. It is a small orchestra with musicians who have been loyal to our Auckland audiences and their love of fine music. Without full time employees but the keen support of musicians, sponsors, trustees and most importantly, the general public the orchestra has kept the music flowing uninterrupted for ten years. It has been a great privilege for Linda and me to have been associated with Peter Scholes and his wonderful orchestra for ten years. Long may it last! Thank you all for your kind support.
